Lakshmi

A little while ago I visited Bath vintage market and found this amazing old Hindu print.  The colours are amazing.  This has been the main source of my inspiration of my latest Fashion Communication project.

Here are some drawings that I have been working on of the Hindu Goddess 'Lakshmi'.
Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.  She is the consort of Lord Vishnu and the mother of Ganesha, the elephant headed God.

Below: A pencil sketch which I deliberately left half finished, I thought that this made the picture more interesting.

Below: My finished etching which I printed in the print studio at university.  I have used a lovely thick off white paper and a white card on these.  I love how each print looks different depending on how you wipe the excess ink off the etch plate.  Sometimes they come out dark and dramatic, while other times they look lighter and delicate.  The etching process is very time consuming but I absolutely enjoy every second of it.  I really want to get back into the print studio soon!

Above:  I photocopied the finished Lakshmi etch and coloured it in with artist's marker pens.  I tried three different colour combinations.  I really love to play around with different colour options.  The green is my favourite.
